Recruit an effective diversified Board of Directors

Committee of 2 or 3 board members to interview recommended people for consideration

Recruit up to 12 board members for new fiscal year. Focus on businesses, service clubs, Chamber members and/or influential, resourceful members of the community. Elect new members at the AGM on
November 30, 2006.

2) Update existing VCAC brochure to be exclusively Arts Council/Group Members recruitment |

3) Update Policy and Procedure booklet for board members to include roles,
responsibilities, time commitment, by-laws, society act, liability, conduct total package a members needs to know once recruited

This booklet is the full understanding of responsibilities to the Arts Council. It is clear, concise, direct and logical.
Appoint 2 members to draft and execute this project by November 2006. Update continually as needed. |

4) Evaluate board’s contribution to goals and determine effectiveness |
Benchmark with other boards to review their evaluation forms. Incorporate best practice format based on their recommendations and results.

Goal 2
Raise the profile of the Arts Council initiatives

1) Present a quarterly report to City Council on the achievements made by VCAC, members, community
|
Delegate two board members to present facts and figures on accomplishments and areas that need improvement and passed by city council. Emphasize the importance of arts and culture to our community and solicit their support on every step needed to grow. October 2006

2) Sponsor workshops for members on Funding, Executive Recruitment, Web Design, and/or other topics of interest |
Team of two to research guest facilitators to offer effect afford/Summer ~ Fall/Winter
Encourage input and feedback from members.

3) Recruit and develop 13 to 19 year olds to the YACON (Youth Arts Council of Okanagan North) |
Send representatives to high schools, sports/rec centres, advertise and spread the word.

Continually build the Arts Centre to accommodate the community’s growth and interests
|
1) Recruit an Arts Centre Committee to oversee the operations of the Centre
|
ACC of 3 to 5 volunteers to assist the ED in maintaining the facility - conduct research and resources needed for a smooth operation.

2) Continue construction of the exterior and interior existing Arts Centre building |
Present proposal to NORD for city approval to enhance the Arts Centre for on going improvements by September 2006. |

3) Develop safe access around the building |
Improve lighting, parking, signage and walkways to and from the Arts Centre.

Provide arts and

1) Create an Artist in Residence Program

Write for grants to support detailing expectations and results by November 2006.

2) Improve Public Relations in the community |
Designate a board member as copy writer/photographer to assist ED & Council. Photo/press releases & editorials to all valley and provincial media & other arts related centres on a monthly bases or as news happens ~ ongoing. |

3) Create a questionnaire for feedback on programs, needs and wishes for the Arts Centre |
Distribute to all art/group members and publish on the Centres web site.

Solicit Partners to invest in the Arts Council Goals

1) Create a presentation package with testimonials that explains the financial levels of partnerships

Work one year in advance to secure budget funds for support in 2007 for long term 3 5 10 year commitment.
Approach financial, real estate and other business professionals.

2) Recognize partners and encourage participation in special events, programs, volunteering |
Create a visual means of showcasing financial contributors to the Arts Council.
